Mike Kras of the Beursfoon Rockstar Suzuki Team finished on the podium at round three of the Dutch Open MX1 Series in Gemert. In the first moto he was riding a consistent race and finished the moto in third position. In the second moto he crossed the finish line in third position as well and this gave him second position overall.
Mike has ridden in the MX2 class for almost his entire career and wanted to stay in this class but after a few practice sessions in the week prior to the Grand Prix MX3 in Valkenswaard Mike and the team saw that the Suzuki RM-Z450 and Mike were a perfect match. Mike finished in second position in the Grand Prix and after a few discussions Mike and the team decided to ride in the MX1 class at round three of the Dutch Open Championship Series in Gemert.
In Gemert things were going really well. He set the second fastest time in practice and was just a little bit slower as Tanel Leok. This position gave him a good gate pick in both motos.
In the first moto he took a good start and came out of the first corner just outside of the top five. After two laps he had already worked himself up into fifth position and just before the middle of the race he took over third position. Mike was riding a consistent race and managed to stay close to Marc de Reuver who was riding in second position. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to pass the former Dutch Open Champion and had to be satisfied with third position.
In the second moto he started the race around fifth position. In this moto Mike was on fire and already in the second lap he moved up to fourth position. Soon after he set his sights on the third place rider. In lap five he made a pass stick and took over third position. The two leaders had already a gap over themselves and Mike. The rider from Fijnaart tried to close it down. He came a little bit closer for a few laps but in the second part of the race he had to let them go and settled for third position.
Overall he finished in second position in the Dutch Open Championship round in Gemert.
Michael Leib’s recovery is going well. His broken forearm is almost completely ready to go back on the bike again. At this point he has preparing himself for the final ten rounds of the World Championship. His first race will be the French Grand Prix on the 9th of June.
